A loud bang in the middle of the night woke residents of Corso Aldo Moro in Cerignola. Around 4:00 a.m. today, Wednesday, September 2nd, the infamous "Marmotta" gang struck again, targeting the Credem bank branch. Despite a second attempt to blow up the ATM, the criminals were forced to flee empty-handed.
The impact of the explosion caused extensive damage: the ATM structure and the bank's entrance were literally torn apart. Firefighters quickly arrived on the scene to secure the area, declaring the premises temporarily uninhabitable, and law enforcement officers launched an investigation. This is the twenty-ninth incident—both successful and unsuccessful—recorded in the province of Foggia since the beginning of the year.
Local institutions have reacted harshly to yet another act of intimidation against the productive and civic sectors.
The voice of the institutions: Mayor Francesco Bonito and Security Councilor Teresa Cicolella expressed deep dismay: "This is yet another affront to an entire region. We are faced with a consolidated, organized criminal scheme that is extremely easy to replicate."
Applause and alarm: The administration thanked the judiciary and law enforcement for their recent operations against widespread crime in the region, but emphasized that the standard response is no longer sufficient.
The appeal to the Government: The Municipality formally requests the State to activate extraordinary powers, tools, and personnel.
