Naples – Transforming an open wound into an opportunity for growth, community, and social redemption. This is the profound meaning of the second memorial dedicated to Genny Cesarano, held in the Rione Sanità district eleven years after the tragic death of the young man, an innocent victim of organized crime.
A day in which memory was not limited to passive recollection, but was transformed into concrete action through the universal language of sport.
The commitment of institutions and the social network
The event opened with the participation of Antonio Cesarano—Genny's father and a symbol of the demand for justice and rebirth for the neighborhood—and was opened by numerous figures from the institutional and associative world:
Antonio De Iesu, Councillor of the Municipality of Naples;
Giuseppe Granata, President of the Campania Coordination of Families of Innocent Victims of Crime;
Alessandra Rossi, Coordinator of the Nisida Multifunctional Centre;
Enrico Tedesco, Secretary General of the Pol.is Foundation of the Campania Region;
Pasquale Leone, for Libera Campania;
Giovanni Mauriello and Patrizio De Pietro, managers of the CSI (Italian Sports Center).
Also significant was the presence of Anna and Pino Paciolla, Mario Paciolla's parents, testifying to a network of remembrance that has gathered around the victims' families. From each speaker, a unanimous warning emerged: cultivating memory means offering young people daily opportunities.
The real protagonists: the boys and a surprise at the end
The real stars of the event were the neighborhood's young soccer players, who competed on the field in a spirit of respect, integration, and fair play.
The day concluded with an important announcement with a strong social impact: all tournament winners will be guaranteed full coverage for the entire CSI football season. This concrete initiative will allow the young people to continue their sporting journey within a healthy, safe, and structured environment.
