Naples – RFI has announced preparatory work for the construction of the new Pompeii interchange hub, the platform that will connect the historic Naples–Salerno line (operated by RFI) with the Naples–Sorrento Circumvesuviana line (operated by EAV). The goal is to improve accessibility for travelers and tourists heading to the archaeological excavations and the Sanctuary of Pompeii.
At the same time, preliminary work will begin on the new overpass at Scafati station, a project designed to make rail service access easier for users on the route.
What changes for trains
To ensure the construction sites remain fully operational, train services between Torre Annunziata and Nocera Inferiore stations will be suspended on the following weekends:
September 12–13
September 26–27
October 10–11, 2026
Cancellations, restrictions, and schedule changes are expected for high-speed, regional, and metropolitan trains these days. Specifically:
Frecciarossa trains 9693 and 9568 (Rome Termini–Naples–Pompeii and Pompeii–Naples–Florence SMN) will be cancelled on the Naples–Pompeii route on September 13 and 27, and on October 11.
In connection with the Frecce, the FrecciaLink connection from Naples Afragola to Pompei Scavi (and vice versa) will be active.
All Trenitalia regional trains on the Naples Campi Flegrei–Salerno route will depart from Torre Annunziata Centrale.
Some trains on the Naples Central–Salerno–Sapri route will be subject to timetable changes or diversions.
Replacement buses and limitations
A bus service is planned between:
Central Naples and Nocera Inferiore
Torre Annunziata Central and Nocera Inferiore
Torre Annunziata Central and Salerno
RFI warns that, where bus service is active, travel times may increase due to road traffic. Furthermore:
Available seats may be fewer than on normal train service.
Bikes are not allowed on buses.
No pets are allowed, with the exception of guide dogs.
For FrecciaLink, seats can only be purchased in connection with Frecce.
Construction site and investments
Over 40 people, including RFI employees and contractors, will be employed on the construction sites, for a total financial commitment of approximately 50 million euros.
