The Carabinieri patrol recognized the license plate. The two people in the car, already known to law enforcement, did not stop at the checkpoint. The man was arrested, the woman was charged.
Somma Vesuviana — A routine check was enough to transform a normal morning patrol into a police operation worthy of an action movie. Carabinieri from the local station in Somma Vesuviana, after a daring chase, stopped a truck stolen the previous night. The heavy vehicle was carrying a 33-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman, both already known to law enforcement.
Control and escape
It all begins during a territorial patrol. The Carabinieri officers notice a truck driving through the streets of the Vesuvian town. Something doesn't add up: the vehicle's license plate matches that of a vehicle stolen during the night and entered into the search databases.
The Carabinieri immediately attempted to stop the driver by ordering him to stop, but the reaction was immediate and violent.
The truck driver ignored orders to stop and accelerated, sparking a reckless escape through the town's streets. A woman was also on board, an accomplice in the daring escape.
The accident and the arrest
The race against time, however, was short-lived. During the escape, the driver lost control of the heavy vehicle, which crashed into a wall on Via Pomigliano. The impact permanently halted the two fugitives. The Carabinieri immediately reached the vehicle and proceeded to identify and arrest the two occupants.
Initial investigations on the scene revealed that the couple had stolen the truck the previous evening. The 33-year-old Egidio Francesco Longo of Acerra, already known to the public, was immediately arrested on charges of resisting a public officer and reported for theft. The 30-year-old woman was also charged with theft.
The results of the investigations
The man was taken to his home where he will serve house arrest pending a sentencing hearing and sentencing. The operation highlights the effectiveness of the extensive local patrols and the prompt response of the Somma Vesuviana Carabinieri , who transformed a simple routine check into a full-scale police operation that led to the arrest of two criminals and the recovery of a stolen heavy vehicle.
