"This year's Labor Day has the eyes, smile and face of Pasquale Apicella, our colleague killed 3 days ago in Naples. From 1944 to today we have had, in the State Police alone, formerly the public security guards, over 2.000 casualties. Every 4 hours in Italy a policeman is injured on duty. This is what Daniele Tissone, general secretary of the police union Silp Cgil, says on the eve of Labor Day.
"Even for police officers, working safely is essential to guarantee the future and above all to ensure the present, to ensure that women and men in uniform can return home safe and sound in the evening. We do not want to be heroes - says Tissone - but workers with inalienable rights aimed at preserving our integrity, health and dignity.
We ask those who today have government responsibilities in a difficult and complex phase like the one we are experiencing not to take away what we hold most dear after life, that is, dignity. In the awareness of carrying out a primary democratic role at the service of the community, we ask to be able to work safely to guarantee the safety of citizens. Happy May Day to the police and all workers”.
