The Scico and the Guardia di Finanza of Crotone have seized 61 thousand euros in the context of the “Genesi” investigation, coordinated by the Dda of Salerno. Among the recipients of the provision of the investigating judge of Salerno there is also the suspended judge of the Court of Appeal of Catanzaro, Marco Petrini, today back in prison after the accusation of having tampered with the evidence.
A sum of 61.500 euros was seized by the military of the Economic and Financial Police Unit of the Guardia di Finanza of Crotone and the Scico of the Fiamme Gialle from the former president of the Court of Appeal of Catanzaro Marco Petrini and four other people involved in the “Genesi” investigation that last January 15 shed light on several episodes of corruption in judicial acts in which the magistrate but also lawyers, entrepreneurs and professionals were involved. According to the investigative findings, the now former president of the Court of Appeal of Catanzaro, as well as president of the tax commission of the Calabrian capital, allegedly pocketed money but also jewels, watches and other gifts to adjust sentences in tax disputes.
At the conclusion of the investigation, directed by the District Attorney's Office of Salerno, competent for crimes committed by magistrates serving in Calabria, the Guardia di Finanza of Crotone and the Scico have executed 13 precautionary custody orders against as many people: in addition to Judge Petrini, also the former regional councilor Giuseppe Tursi Prato, the lawyer Francesco Saraco, the retired doctor Emilio Santoro and various fixers. The further investigations carried out by the Crotone financial police to quantify the sums of money paid as bribes to Judge Petrini have today led to the seizure of equivalent for the purpose of confiscation of 61.500 euros, ordered by the investigating judge of the Court of Salerno at the request of the local DDA. In particular, 10.988 euros were seized from Marco Petrini; 39.011 euros from Emilio Santoro; 10.000 euros from Francesco Saraco and 1.500 euros from Vincenzo Arcuri. For these events, the public prosecutor requested, and the investigating judge of Salerno issued, the decree that orders the immediate trial for the hearing of June 9th against Petrini and five other people. In the meantime, last April 29th, Judge Petrini, who had been granted house arrest by virtue of his collaboration with the investigators, ended up behind bars again on charges of tampering with evidence.
