Vico Equense joins this year the 4 entities already awarded in 2019. The Park leaders: "Great satisfaction, but now more careful than ever". As many as 5 municipalities of the Punta Campanella Marine Protected Area have obtained the Blue Flag 2020. In Massa Lubrense - the leading municipality and heart of the Marine Park - Piano, Sorrento and Positano, Vico Equense has also been added this year for an increasingly blue peninsula. The award ceremony took place this morning remotely, through a Facebook conference.
To obtain the coveted flag - granted by the Fee (Foundation for Environmental Education) - it is necessary to prepare specific documentation and have clean sea, as well as a whole series of services and activities, such as waste recycling, environmental education and information. The presence and actions of the Marine Protected Area are very important in assigning the points that lead to the achievement of the blue flag.
“We are very happy that Vico Equense has also obtained the prestigious flag - says Michele Giustiniani, President of the Punta Campanella AMP - Congratulations to the administrations that have followed the positive example of Massa Lubrense which obtains, with great satisfaction, the thirteenth consecutive Blue Flag. But we must never let our guard down. Now more than ever. 2020 will be a particular year due to the virus. We will have to be even more careful to defend environmental interests by combining them with economic ones, aiming for quality and sustainable tourism”.
The Park Director, Antonino Miccio, was also satisfied: "Good news for the peninsula's sea but it must be a starting point to continue improving the quality of the sea. The presence and the various projects carried out in recent years by the Marine Park are fundamental. An important synergy between institutions to obtain results that can protect the environment and relaunch the image of the coast."
