POMPEII READY TO REOPEN IN TWO PHASES THE FIRST PHASE STARTS ON MAY 26TH WITH ARCHAEOLOGICAL WALKS ALONG THE CITY STREETS

Pompei ready to reopen. Let's go May 26th with a first phase of two weeks which will allow a walk along the streets of the ancient city, to return to admire the most representative places of the site and enjoy their unique atmospheres, according to a pre-established route, on time slots, and with the necessary distancing measures provided by the Ministry of Health. Already in this first phase it will be possible to access some houses with large spaces, and discover some new features in preview, such as the Domus of Cornelius Rufus with its beautiful peristyle (colonnaded garden) that incorporates the flourishing garden, recently restored. A second phase will follow from 9 June, with two itineraries accessible from the entrances of Porta Marina and Piazza Anfiteatro, with the opening of further new spaces and domus, equipped with separate input and output, and with the support of technology to organize and monitor flows.

The entrance ticket in this first phase will have a discounted price of €5 (until June 8th) and it will be purchasable exclusively online on the site www.ticketone.it (free admission and discounts as per regulations). Visiting hours will be as follows: 9,00-19,00 (last admission 17,30), with one closing day per week, Monday. Reservations will also be possible on the same day, subject to availability.

When purchasing online the visitor will be able to choose the entry time slot, scheduled every 15 minutes for a maximum of 40 people per shift. The ticket must be shown at the entrance, directly on a smartphone/tablet (QR code) or already printed at home on paper.

THEPompei365 subscription will be extended for the number of days corresponding to the number of days of closure related to the health emergency. The free ticket for single access must be requested on the website www.ticketone.it

Visitors will be subjected, upon arrival, to temperature measurement using a thermoscanner and they will have to wear the mask mandatory even during the entire presence on the site, in addition respect the physical distance of 1 m outdoors and 1,50 indoors, on the site and outside.

All information regarding safety measures to contain the COVID-19 contagion and how to visit will be provided to visitors via monitors at the entrances and signage.

The visit will take place in full compliance with the distancing measures established by the Technical Scientific Committee, also with the support of specially installed directional signage from the Park. They will be guaranteed sanitizing gel dispenser at the entrance and at the toilets available to visitors.

The only entrance will be the one in Piazza Anfiteatrowith the possibility of exiting through the Temple of Venus, from Piazza Esedra or from Porta Marina. The visit will take place along a one-way route, indicated within the site. It will be possible to walk inside the Amphitheatre, in the garden of the Palestra Grande and in the Praedia of Giulia Felice, but also cross the necropolis of Porta Nocera, the Garden of the Fugitives, reach the theatre district and the Triangular Forum. From Via dell'Abbondanza, furthermore, it will be possible to reach the Forum with all its public and religious buildings, visit the external space of the Stabian Baths or go up Via Stabiana to Via del Vesuvio where you can admire the house of Leda and the Swan, the domus of the Golden Cupids and the Central Baths.

In this phase, it is planned to return, respecting the distances and the visiting priorities, towards the entrance of Piazza Anfiteatro, the only exit in this phase.

“We are happy to finally announce the reopening of Pompeii –
declares the General Manager Massimo Osanna – and to allow the restart of tourist activities, which will give relief to many categories that live on culture and tourism.

Maintenance activities, thanks to the work of the many restorers, workers and technicians of the Park, have never stopped during this period, in order to guarantee the protection and safeguard of the site and be ready for the restart.

We are reopening in full compliance with the regulations, but also with new features that will enrich the itineraries, transforming the limitations of a visit with limited and mandatory routes into an opportunity for further study. It will be a Pompeii to be enjoyed without haste and with greater tranquility. Furthermore, already in the first phase it will be possible to cross the entire city, from the Amphitheater to the Forum, also with the possibility of following a route of the greenery of the Pompeian gardens. From the Praedia of Julia Felix, to the Golden Cupids, to the House of Cornelius Rufus, reopened after a long time, to the gardens of the large Palestra and to the necropolis of Porta Nocera itself or to the vineyard of the garden of the fugitives.

The first phase will be an opportunity, above all, for the communities of the Vesuvian area to return to a place, Pompeii, which more than any other represents the identity of a territory and which is transformed into a true urban park. From the second phase we hope to be able to welcome visitors from more parts of Italy and resume the numerous initiatives scheduled, from exhibitions to the reopening of additional restored domus, but also to proceed quickly with the various construction sites in progress and start the new excavation projects.”
