Naples, police station opens at Pellegrini hospital but only until 1am

The last episode was at the Pellegrini, on February 21st when a 27-year-old from the Spanish Quarters, whose father had died of a heart attack, attacked the doctors and nurses, causing, among other consequences, a head trauma to the face of one of the health workers.

An episode of violence, yet another, after which a police officer was called to the scene. A team of police officers was at the emergency room this morning at ten to organize the office, a policewoman had already been at work since this morning. The police office will remain open from today with one policeman at a time on guard, ready to intervene on small things but also to call the patrol of the Montecalvariop police station that takes care of the garrison.

There are three daily shifts: from 7 am to 13 pm, from 13 pm to 19 pm and from 19 pm to 1 am. Already this morning, patients and relatives noticed the presence of the police during the hours in which there were about twenty people waiting outside the green and yellow code room and already someone nervous: an elderly man who had just been told to wait protested loudly, also making fun of the new police station, shouting "now they're going to put the handcuffs on me".

Among the hospital doctors there is an initial satisfaction for the opening of the office that had been missing for some years, but also an initial disappointment for the night closure of the office. “Here at night – explains a doctor who prefers to remain anonymous – there are the most difficult hours, in the history of Pellegrini people arrive with gunshot wounds, people who have taken a lot of drugs.

We face difficult situations with friends and relatives who arrive in groups at night.” While waiting for a possible 24-hour extension of the police presence, the plan is moving forward also by designing new police stations that should be established soon also in the emergency rooms of Cardarelli, Ospedale del Mare and the Santobono pediatric hospital.
