Elderly man dies charred in bed in Avellino province

An investigation is underway into the death of a 93-year-old man found charred in his home in Prata Principato Ultra, in the province of Avellino.

According to an initial reconstruction by the Carabinieri, the elderly man, Michele Fabrizio, who had been bedridden for some time, may have fallen asleep with a lit cigarette.

The body was discovered by the son, who lives with his father on the second floor of the building on Via Taverna Nova. The flames did not cause serious damage to the home. On site, together with the Carabinieri, Firefighters and 118 personnel.

By order of the Avellino Public Prosecutor's Office, forensic medical examinations have been ordered.
