I Forestry Carabinieri of the San Gregorio Matese Nucleus, together with veterinary doctors of the ASL and technicians ARPAC, carried out an inspection at a livestock farm in Castello del Matese.
During the inspection, the following violations were found:
Unauthorized discharge of wastewater into a mountain spring stream flowing into Lake Matese. The discharge came from the milking parlor of the farm and was traced back through a hydraulic test with tracer.
Deposit of a large pile of manure (about 2.400 cubic meters) on an unprotected agricultural land, about 500 meters from the farm. The manure, resulting from repeated spills, produced leachate that polluted the surrounding soil.
The area is subject to multiple constraints, as it falls within:
Protected area Matese Regional Park
Territory subject to landscape constraints
Natura 2000 Network Site ZSC/SIC “Matese Casertano” IT8010013 and ZPS “Matese” IT8010026
The Carabinieri Forestale proceeded with the preventive seizure of the above-described items and reported at liberty the legal representative of the company that owns the farm for the following types of crime:
Unauthorized discharge of industrial wastewater into surface water (Legislative Decree 152/2006)
Failure to comply with the cases and procedures provided for the agronomic use of livestock effluents (Legislative Decree 152/2006)
Illegal disposal of non-hazardous special waste on the ground (Legislative Decree 152/2006)
The operation is part of the control activities carried out by the Carabinieri Forestale to protect the environment and public health.
