Uan angel who flew to heaven too soon. Eboli mourns Francesco Pio, the 13-month-old baby torn from life by the ferocious aggression of two pitbulls.
His uncle was holding him in his arms as they left the house. Suddenly, they found themselves in front of the dogs that attacked him. The pain of the fall made the man bend down, leaving the little boy defenseless to the fury of the animals.
A tragedy that occurred in a few moments. The attempts of his uncle and brother to save him were in vain. The grandfather, helpless beyond the gate, witnessed the horrifying scene. Tears and dismay accompanied the funeral of the little boy in the church of Santissimi Giuseppe e Fortunato in Borgo Aversana in Battipaglia.
A pain that unites communities. Eboli and Battipaglia have gathered in mourning for the loss of little Francesco Pio. The mayor of Eboli, Mario Conte, has proclaimed a day of mourning. “There are no words to deal with this loss”, said the parish priest, Father Franco Roca, with emotion.
The request for justice. The family asks for clarity and justice. “He was like a son”, declared aunt Virginia D'Amaro. “Regardless of whose fault it is, he is gone”. Five people are being investigated for manslaughter, including the child's mother. The autopsy will clarify the dynamics of the facts.
A warning for the future. Mayor Conte reiterated the need for more stringent regulation for the detention of dogs by private individuals. “You need a license”, he has declared. “I am shocked by the violence of the attack.”
Tomorrow the last farewell. Tomorrow Francesco Pio will be buried in the cemetery of Salerno, in the Campo degli Angeli, where other little angels who flew away too soon rest.
The memory of a smile. On the funeral posters, the joyful face of Francesco Pio. “There is one more Angel in heaven who smiles”, it reads. A smile that will remain forever in the hearts of those who loved him.
