Ciro Polito, Bari's sporting director, was attacked by some red and white fans while he was with his wife in a service station in Occhiobello, Rovigo. The attack occurred after the team's draw against Cittadella, a result that further complicates the Apulians' path towards salvation.
The news was confirmed by club sources, while law enforcement has started investigating the incident. The authorities are analyzing video surveillance footage to obtain further information on the attack. In the meantime, also yesterday, heated exchanges occurred between Bari fans, managers and players at Bergamo airport, upon the team's return.
A spat has broken out between a long-time former ultras leader and a member of the management staff, with video of the incident quickly going viral on social media. The situation is becoming increasingly tense for Bari, who will play their final game of the season at the San Nicola against Brescia on Friday night. A win against the Lombards represents their only chance to avoid direct relegation and nurture hopes for the play-offs.
