UA 41-year-old woman lost her life this afternoon in Bema, in the province of Sondrio, after falling from the Fly Emotion zipline.
The accident occurred around 12:30 in the sports facility that connects Bema to the other side of the mountain via a suspended cable. The exact dynamics of the incident are still unclear.
The Alpine Rescue technicians, the firefighters, the Areu helicopter, the Morbegno Alpine Rescue and the Carabinieri intervened on site.
According to one of the hypotheses being examined by investigators, the woman, a few meters from the arrival station, may have had an illness, perhaps a heart attack, which made her lose control and cause the fall.
Investigations are ongoing to ascertain exactly what happened. The judiciary has ordered the seizure of the system and the harness used by the victim.
The accident has caused great mourning in the community of Bema and throughout Valtellina.
This is the second fatal accident on the Fly Emotion zipline in less than a year. Last August, a 55-year-old man died after falling during the flight.
The episode raises questions about the safety of these types of facilities and the need for more rigorous controls.
The competent authorities are evaluating the measures to be adopted to guarantee maximum safety for users of the Fly Emotion zipline.
