UA joint investigation by the Carabinieri and the Naples District Anti-Mafia Directorate (PM Henry John Woodcock and Stefano Capuano) has brought to light a disturbing scenario of political-mafia vote-trading during the 2023 administrative elections in cercola, in the province of Naples.
The investigations have documented a series of episodes in which the daughter of a life-sentenced boss, at the time of the events a list representative, a candidate related by kinship to the De Micco clan, her brother, a councilor in a municipality of Naples, and also their father, allegedly bought votes in favor of specific candidates.
The “price list” for each vote was 50 euros, with the promise of a total compensation for expressing a preference for the person “indicated” by the clan in the first and second rounds.
The elections at the center of the investigation are the administrative elections of May 14 and 15, 2023, followed by the runoff elections of May 25 and 26 of the same year.
The investigations
The investigations, conducted with the help of wiretaps and video recordings, allowed us to document numerous meetings between members of the clan and voters, during which payment in exchange for the vote was agreed upon.
Following the operation, the daughter of the life-sentenced boss, the candidate linked to the De Micco clan, her brother and their father were arrested.
