Land investigations by the Venice Public Prosecutor's Office into the murder of Giulia Cecchettin, the twenty-two-year-old from Vigonovo, by her ex-boyfriend Filippo Turetta, are beginning to come to an end. The tragic events had occurred six months ago and had led the killer into a desperate escape to Germany, after having discarded the woman's body in a ravine between Barcis and Piancavallo, in the province of Pordenone.
The judicial front reveals the intention of the magistrates to include the aggravating circumstance of premeditation, an opening that could lead to a life sentence. The race against time is currently underway to bring the case to the preliminary hearing before the summer recess, so that the trial can begin during the autumn.
The technical evidence of premeditation
The investigation is being supervised by deputy Andrea Petroni, who has ordered several crucial expert assessments to justify the accusation of premeditation. These include an analysis conducted by the Parma RIS on the traces found in Turetta's car, focusing on the quantity and position of the blood.
This data could play a fundamental role in reconstructing the murder. The analysis of the conversations, messages and online searches carried out by the young man could also provide valuable information on the events that preceded Giulia's death.
Knives and planning tests
A key element that supports the accusation of premeditation is the presence of the two knives that Turetta had with him on the day of the murder. In addition, a roll of duct tape found in his car, used to tie up Giulia, seems to indicate a premeditated planning of the murder, as well as the sighting of his presence in the area of the murder before the tragic meeting with Giulia.
Murder and escape
Giulia was a talented student on the verge of graduating when she died on November 11. Turetta, with his slower pace of study, feared losing her forever after their relationship ended. He was obsessive, constantly monitoring Giulia and insisting on being called by her every night before she went to sleep. It was during that day that the situation escalated.
On the day of the crime, the two had visited a shopping center in Marghera and had dinner together. Shortly after 23 p.m., the assault took place inside Turetta's car. A security camera had recorded Giulia trying to escape from the car, but she was stopped by Filippo and thrown to the ground before being loaded into the trunk and driven away from the scene. Only in hindsight was the entire episode reconstructed, when the drama was over, Giulia was dead and Filippo had fled, leaving behind only the woman's body.
