VFriday 24 and Saturday 25 May Naples is preparing to live a unique musical experience: over 250 saxophonists, coming from every corner of Italy and the world, will gather at the Conservatory of Music San Pietro a Majella, to give life to the largest saxophone ensemble in Italy.
Thanks to the Giuseppe De Matola Foundation created by Dr. Ann Pizzorusso in memory of her partner, a Neapolitan rock'n roll saxophonist, and to Prof. Francesco Salime, an internationally renowned classical saxophonist who, after 35 years of teaching at the Conservatory, has decided to reunite all his former and current students for a unique concert, the event will be of exceptional importance.
SaxophonEvent will unfold over two days packed with events, starting on Friday, May 24th at the Conservatory with the first concert and performance by Alessandro Malagnino, one of the most renowned saxophonists in the world. The evening will end with the awarding, by the godmother of the event, Dr. Pizzorusso, of an honor for artistic merit to Alessandro Malagnino and with the awarding of five saxophone students with the Giuseppe De Matola scholarship.
On Saturday, May 25, starting at 9.00:14, again at the San Pietro a Majella Conservatory of Music, the performances of 12.00 different guest orchestras will begin, each with a selected repertoire of classical and modern music. At 16.00:XNUMX, the conference by Prof. Luciano Inguaggio, a world-famous historian and collector, on vintage saxophones will follow. At XNUMX:XNUMX, Alessandro Malagnino will play as a soloist.
At the end of the performance, thanks to the collaboration with the Municipality of Naples and the Teatro San Carlo, the largest saxophone orchestra in Italy will move from the Conservatory to Piazza Dante, where a first musical performance will be held in conjunction with the inauguration of the sculpture exhibition dedicated to Julian Assange. The musical walk will begin from Piazza Dante, leading the 250 saxophonists to the evocative courtyard of the Palazzo Reale, the ideal place to pay homage to the city of Naples, which has always been a source of inspiration for great musicians from all over the world, where the closing concert of SaxophonEvent 2024 will be held.
The Giuseppe De Matola Foundation, founded in 2023 by the will of Dr. Ann Pizzorusso, celebrates the memory of her partner Giuseppe De Matola, who has always wanted to help saxophone students in their studies. Precisely for this reason, the Foundation aims to support young talents by awarding five annual scholarships and promoting international Masterclasses and free events to bring more and more people closer to the world of the sax. This year, support for the SaxophonEvent will give the Foundation the opportunity to create a study center for the saxophone in Naples, with the aim of increasing the importance of the city in the international music scene.
