LThe Naples Mobile Squad, with the support of several operational units, has seized a large area close to the nomad camp of Dark Perillo in Scampia, used as an illegal landfill.
The following were found on the site: large quantities of urban waste, special and dangerous, including household appliances, tires, waste material and car carcasses partially burned.
The area was often the scene of large fires, especially in the summer, with the consequent emission of harmful and toxic substances into the air and a serious danger to public safety.
The criminal offences of illegal collection and management of special and hazardous waste, environmental pollution and environmental disaster have been identified.
The operation is part of the prevention and monitoring action conducted by the State Police against environmental crimes that damage the territory and put citizens' health at risk. This is a phenomenon that for decades has represented a source of illicit profit also for criminal organizations.
A national operation to combat and prevent pollution
The activity of Napoli is part of a large operation of the State Police on the national territory to combat the illegal disposal of waste. The activities, coordinated at central level by the SCO, involved the Mobile Squads and the SISCOs in 33 Italian provinces, with the support of various competent agencies and bodies.
40 areas seized throughout Italy
In three days of intense operational activities, over 168 suspicious areas, 40 of which were seized.
Over 1.763 people have been identified, 103 reported at liberty for crimes related to the illegal management of waste, 2 arrested in flagrante of crime and beyond 85 administrative violations were contested for an amount exceeding 200 thousand euros.
The investigation and verification activities will continue in the next few days to evaluate the existence of further administrative and criminal offences.
The State Police confirms its constant commitment in the fight against environmental crimes, to protect the environment and public health.
