LThe Termini Imerese Prosecutor's Office has opened an investigation to ascertain the exact dynamics of the sinking of the Bayesan, the 56-meter sailing boat that sank at dawn this morning off the coast of Porticello.
The first investigations by the judicial authorities were delegated to the Coast Guard of Porticello.
In the meantime, the lifeless body of a man has been recovered by Fire Brigade divers outside the wreck. The search operations are continuing – the Fire Brigade reports on X – with the coordination at sea of the Coast Guard.
This morning, following a violent storm, a 56-metre sailing yacht named Bayesian, flying the flag of the United Kingdom, sank off the coast of Porticello.
The first castaways, initially rescued by a vessel in the immediate vicinity, were then brought ashore by four Coast Guard vessels, which promptly intervened at the site of the shipwreck from Porticello, Termini Imerese and Palermo.
According to initial information received from the yacht's crew, there were 22 people on board (10 crew members and 12 passengers). Of the people rescued, 8 were then transported to local hospitals.
In the area, searches are underway with four Coast Guard vessels, a Nemo - Coast Guard helicopter departed from Catania and a team of Fire Brigade divers, all under the coordination of the Coast Guard of Palermo. The vessel appears to have sunk at a depth of about 50 meters.
The search continues incessantly with naval, air and underwater resources, including the Coast Guard Underwater Unit of Messina.
