IThe PCIM-L calls for the immediate suspension of the works which are invading part of the Acquario beach with rocks, the last stretch of public beach of San Pietro beach.
Work to be suspended immediately while waiting for maximum clarity on what is being done and what still needs to be done in order to avoid further environmental devastation.
In the Municipality of Ischia, and it wouldn't be the first, a new environmental disaster seems to be underway with which part of the last stretch of the public beach of San Pietro, the so-called Aquarium beach, is being erased.
A strip of beach that until now had remained miraculously wild, even surviving the devastation of the hill above where, in another devastation, the purification plant was being built in recent years.
Well, the municipal administration of Ischia to create a walkway that connects the Riva Destra with the beach of San Pietro, is creating a path that initially was said to be a wooden platform. But the placing of rocks on part of the last strip of beach, currently about 10 meters, has changed the features of that stretch of coast invading part of the public beach.
And in this regard we ask ourselves: has a serious and in-depth study been done on the possible effects that the placement of new rocks on that stretch of coast could have on the Ischian coastline of the San Pietro beach which, let us remember, reaches as far as the Cristoforo Colombo seafront?
And again. Have the municipal administrators of Ischia considered the possibility of expropriating part of the land behind for public use to build the promenade without altering the nature of this beach? In the meantime, in this regard, we are pleased to learn of the outrage and protest of citizens and associations.
The PCIM-L founded by the late Domenico Savio calls for the immediate suspension of the works while waiting for maximum clarity on what is being done and what still needs to be done and this so that a valid and less invasive alternative is found to create the “San Pietro” promenade without altering and submerging under the rocks the last, wild and romantic Ischian beach.
