Romelu Lukaku, Napoli's new striker, spoke to the club's YouTube channel, sharing his special bond with Antonio Conte and his first impressions of the city and its fans. The Belgian striker recalled the beginning of his story with Conte: “He wanted me when I was only 19, even though we didn’t have the opportunity to work together right away.
Years later, that opportunity came and he took me to another level, both football-wise and mentally.”
Lukaku described winning the Scudetto under Conte as one of the most significant moments of his career: “The photo taken with him after the triumph is one of the most beautiful memories of our journey together. As he always says, true history is written when you win.”
Regarding his arrival in Naples, Lukaku said he was enthusiastic about the warm welcome he received: “You can see that the fans live for the team.
This gives you incredible motivation, you feel obliged to give everything in every training session and in every match. It's my mentality." A key role in his decision to join Napoli was played by his friend and former teammate Dries Mertens: “I spoke to Dries, who knows me very well, and he told me that Naples is the right place for me. I feel ready for this challenge.”
