UA new case of a violin spider bite has alarmed Campania. A man from Roccadaspide, in the province of Salerno, was rushed to hospital after being bitten by the arachnid.
The bite, initially painless, soon led to a serious infection, known as necrotizing fasciitis, which caused tissue in the leg to die.
Despite the prompt intervention of the doctors of Ruggi d'Aragona in Salerno and Cotugno in Naples, the man is still undergoing treatment.
A silent danger
Il violin spider, although not aggressive, can inflict dangerous bites. Its venom causes tissue necrosis, a condition that can lead to serious complications and, in rare cases, even death.
Pay attention to the symptoms
It is essential to recognize the symptoms of a brown recluse spider bite: redness, itching, burning, and then a black ulcer. If you suspect a bite, it is essential to seek immediate medical attention.
What to do in case of a bite
- Wash the area thoroughly with soap and water.
Apply ice to reduce swelling.
Seek medical attention immediately.
To prevent brown recluse spider bites, it is advisable to:
Wear protective clothing when working in the garden or in the countryside.
Shake out clothes and shoes before wearing them.
Avoid leaving objects on the floor in potentially infested environments.
Important: Although cases of brown recluse spider bites are on the rise, it is important to remember that most people who are bitten recover completely without complications. However, it is always better to be safe than sorry.
