Napoli.A new chapter opens for the historic Circumvesuviana.
Yesterday, amidst general excitement and the flashes of photographers, the first of the 56 new Stadler trains destined to revolutionize public transport in Campania arrived in Naples. An event that marks the end of an era and the beginning of a new, more modern and efficient one.
“It’s a dream come true,” EAV President Umberto De Gregorio enthusiastically declared. “After years of waiting and commitment, we are finally seeing an ambitious project materialize that will benefit millions of commuters.”
The new train, a jewel of technology and design, was welcomed like a hero at the San Giovanni a Teduccio workshop. Modern lines, comfortable interiors, cutting-edge safety systems: everything contributes to offering a completely renewed travel experience.
But the joy for the arrival of the first train is tempered by the awareness that the road is still long. Before being able to admire the new convoys speeding along the Vesuvian lines, it will be necessary to overcome several bureaucratic and technical obstacles.
The National Agency for Railway Safety (ANSFISA) will in fact have to issue the necessary authorizations for the entry into service of these new prototypes, a process that could take up to a year.
“We are aware of the challenges that await us,” added De Gregorio, “but we are confident that we can meet the expected deadlines. We have a precise plan and a team of highly qualified professionals who are working tirelessly to complete this important project.”
Meanwhile, in San Giovanni a Teduccio, a team of Spanish technicians from Stadler is already working to assemble and fine-tune the new trains. At the same time, the modernization work on the railway signaling, entrusted to Alstom, is proceeding.
A total investment of one billion euros that demonstrates the Campania Region's desire to transform the Circumvesuviana into a cutting-edge public transport system. But when will we finally be able to board the new trains?
According to EAV's forecasts, the first ten trains will enter service by 2025, while the entire fleet will be renewed by 2026. A prospect that fills commuters with hope, tired of traveling on old and inefficient trains.
