Napoli– Reduced sentences for three defendants considered by the Naples District Anti-Mafia Office to be leading members of the clan Beloved-Pagan, involved in an extortion affair against an entrepreneur involved in the construction of a headquarters for a well-known supermarket chain.
La Court of Appeal of Naples, first section, accepted the requests of the defense team recognizing the continuation of the crime with previous convictions, and thus reformulated the sentences imposed in the first instance.
At the heart of the proceedings Mark De Liguori, already sentenced to 8 years in January 2024 for his leading role in the criminal organization. Defended by the lawyer Louis Sienese, Di Liguori obtained a total sentence of 8 years and 4 months, unifying the current extortion charge with the previous conviction.
Nicholas Schiavone, considered a historical member of the clan with operational roles in the extortion sector, had been sentenced to 6 years. The Court, taking into account the continuation, established a final sentence of 6 years and 4 months (6 years for mafia association, 4 months for extortion). He is defended by lawyers Louis Sienese e Andrea DiLorenzo.
Finally, Domenico DeMase, assisted by lawyers Louis Sienese e Lucia Boscaino, benefited from continuation on three different sentences: 6 years and 8 months for mafia association, 3 years and one month for attempted extortion and 8 years for extortion related to the current trial. The final sentence for De Mase was set at 8 years and 8 months' imprisonment.
The measure represents a crucial step in the investigations conducted by the Neapolitan DDA against the Amato-Pagano clan, active for years in the northern area of the province and protagonist of numerous illicit activities linked to extortion and territorial control.

It is strange how the court decided to reduce the sentences for these defendants, considering their previous convictions. The issue of extortion and mafia clans remains very complex and deserves greater attention from the authorities.
