An illegal factory of hypoallergenic, memory foam and latex pillows was discovered by the Carabinieri in the heart of Terzigno, in the Naples area: a completely illegal activity, hidden in the basement of a building in via Giordano, where a 52-year-old had set up a real production laboratory.
All this, of course, without any health or commercial authorization. Behind an apparent domestic activity, there was a full-scale production: heaps of regenerated latex, probably obtained from industrial waste, were transformed into pillows that were then sold on the local market as hypoallergenic products, ideal even for those who suffer from neck pain.
It's a pity that the work was done in the open air, without any protection or health and hygiene safeguards, and with materials intended to come into direct contact with the skin. The Carabinieri of the station discovered everything. Terzigno, with the support of the Labor Inspectorate and the Forestry Department of the Boscoreale Park, also attracted by the strong smell of rubber coming from the area.
The investigation revealed an impressive profit margin: each cushion was produced at a cost of just 1 euro and 30 cents, and then resold for around 30 euros to local traders. A significant turnover, which however came to a sudden halt. The 52-year-old was reported and will now have to answer for crimes related to illegal production and violation of environmental and health and hygiene regulations. The authorities ordered the immediate suspension of the activity and applied fines of over 70 thousand euros.

It's a bit incredible how it's possible that an illegal pillow factory exists in the city center. Consumer health is at risk and I wonder why the authorities didn't check before.
