NAPLES - “The prefect also contributed”, joked the mayor of Naples Gaetano Manfredi, answering journalists about the renewal of Antonio Conte as Napoli coach. The irony is linked to the words of the president of the Campania Region, Vincenzo De Luca, who had underlined the role of the Region in financing the renovation of the Maradona stadium, stating that for the celebration of the championship “the only institution that probably had the right to participate in the parade is the Campania Region”.
Manfredi, speaking on the sidelines of an institutional meeting in the seventh municipality, continued with a thoughtful and decisive tone: “We have shown Antonio Conte great support from the city and the institutions, I believe he felt part of a project, of great popular joy and collective satisfaction”. The mayor then wanted to publicly thank the president Aurelio De Laurentiis, recognizing in the blue patron the architect of the conditions that allowed the coach to remain.
Conte's choice, fresh from rumours that he was close to returning to Juventus, is considered a weighty one that relaunches Napoli as a consolidated reality: “Naples today has nothing to envy anyone - has explained Manfredi - but this challenge must be faced every day with pride and awareness. We must win the championship every day, as institutions and as a community”.
