Napoli – He passed away as he had lived: behind bars and in silence. Francesco Mallardo, known as “Ciccio 'e Carlantonio”, the historic boss of Giugliano and pillar of the Secondigliano Alliance, died today in a clinic in Emilia-Romagna, where he had been hospitalized for some time due to the worsening of a serious illness.

His lawyers confirmed his death, which occurred under a harsh prison regime (41 bis). With him goes the last patriarch of a criminal empire that for decades has bloodied the northern province of Naples.

The end of an era

From the cell to the morgueMallardo, 67, had been detained for years in the maximum security circuit, isolated from the world but never truly defeated.
The incurable disease: Investigative sources speak of a tumor that had been consuming him for months, while his jailers transferred him between secure hospitals.
 The final resting placeHe died far from his hometown of Giugliano, a land he controlled with an iron fist, in a clinic in the Po Valley chosen for security reasons.

The Kingdom of the Mallardo Clan

“Ciccio” was not just any boss: a cornerstone of the Secondigliano Alliance, the axis that unites the great Camorra surnames;
Weddings and Blood: the Mallardos are related to the Licciardis and other dynasties, weaving a web of power over waste disposal, contracts and drugs;
Double face: loved by the poor (with donations and “help”) and feared by enemies (with exemplary executions).
In these hours, in Giugliano and Secondigliano, a funereal respect circulates. No threatening messages, no clan acronyms on the walls: only lowered glances and rivers of unspoken words. “It’s as if a king had died,” murmurs a repentant. “But today the clans no longer hold royal funerals.”

The missed reckoning

Mallardo leaves without ever having spoken, without having seen the collapse of his system. For justice, it remains a half-victory: defeated by illness, not by the law. Never repentant, never a collaborator. Symbol of an old power of the Camorra
