Napoli – A high-level delegation from CON.SI.PE. (Confederation of Trade Unions Penitentiary) today made an institutional visit to the Poggioreale “Giuseppe Salvia” prison in Naples, an institution considered among the most critical and strategic in the Italian penitentiary system.
The delegation: union alongside the staff
Led by Vice President Luigi Castaldo, the delegation included:
Comm. Vincenzo Santoriello, historic director of the Penitentiary Police and symbolic figure of the Corps;
Dr. Francesco De Curtis, national secretary of CON.SI.PE.;
Tommaso De Lia, regional secretary for Campania;
Bruno Faraldo, regional manager.
The presence of Santoriello, a true pillar of the Penitentiary Administration, added a symbolic value to the initiative, reiterating the union's commitment to protecting those who work on the front lines.
Objective: listen, verify, intervene
Poggioreale, with its chronic overcrowding and high operational load, represents a daily challenge for the staff. The visit focused on:
Structural and safety criticalities
Staff workload
Logistical and organizational conditions
The data collected will be included in a detailed report, which will be presented to the Department of Penitentiary Administration and the Government, to request urgent interventions to support operators.
A present and proactive union
"This visit confirms our role as a responsible interlocutor," Castaldo said. "Poggioreale is a thermometer of the system's difficulties: concrete answers are needed, not promises."
CON.SI.PE. thus relaunches its commitment to improving safety and efficiency, guaranteeing prison staff adequate protection in a context of extreme hardship.
