Naples – A child filmed while handling a gun and firing a shot at chest height in the heart of Piazza Cavour.
The images, recorded on Friday afternoon in the local park, were sent to MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli (Green-Sinister Alliance), who has been fighting the phenomenon of baby gangs and juvenile crime for years.
In the video, the little boy – described by witnesses as “cocky” and with a bully-like attitude – takes the gun out of his pocket and shoots in broad daylight, in the middle of a crowd. The scene immediately created alarm among those present and those who witnessed the episode. The images, described as “disturbing” by Borrelli himself, are now being brought to the attention of law enforcement.
“What strikes – the deputy comments – it is the ease with which that child handles a firearm. Whether it was a real one or a blank gun does not matter: the seriousness of the gesture and the obvious danger to himself and others remain. We have asked the authorities to ascertain the identity of the minor, the origin of the weapon and who put that instrument of death in his hands”.
Borrelli also urged the intervention of social services to reconstruct the minor's family and environmental context, raising the alarm about the risk of early recruitment by organised crime: “As also confirmed by the prosecutor Gratteri, there are minors who have already been members of the clans since they were very young.
Some are capable of committing criminal acts with chilling coldness. An immediate reaction is needed: we must nip this drift in the bud and prevent new generations from being branded by the Camorra from a very young age”.
The episode occurred just as the city was growing in anticipation of the celebrations tied to Napoli's fourth Scudetto. A festive context abruptly interrupted by the roar of that shot fired by a child's hand, which today shakes public opinion and turns the spotlight back on the scourge of childhood removed from legality.

It is really worrying to see a child so young with a gun in his hand. The situation he lives in could be very difficult and complex. An immediate intervention is needed to prevent other children from falling into this trap.
