Naples – Another episode of violence at the hospital Cardarelli in Naples, where a man, enraged by a delayed booking at the Single Booking Centre (CUP), threatened the staff with shocking phrases: “I’ll break your head and knock your teeth out of your mouth”.
Only the intervention of the security guards prevented an escalation, accompanying the man out of the pavilion.
A citizen present reported the incident, contacting the deputy of the Green Left Alliance Francesco Emilio Borrelli. “People go crazy even for a postponement of an appointment, not only at the emergency room,” the witness reported.
Borrelli, who has long been at the forefront of hospital safety, points the finger at the inertia of the institutions: "The Government had promised permanent police presence in hospitals, but the measure is applied in few hospitals. Those who attack often get away with it, a message that fuels impunity".
The MP calls for “zero tolerance for the violent” and more funding for healthcare: “We need continuous security and resources for the healthcare system, not cuts. Violence is never justifiable, but the Government must act to guarantee protection for those who work”.
