Ahouse arrest for the mayor of Santa Marina in the heart of Cilento (born in 1967) and a Neapolitan entrepreneur (born in 1966), accused of corruption for an act contrary to the duties of office.
This is the result of an investigation conducted by the Guardia di Finanza of Salerno, with the support of the Judicial Police Section of the Prosecutor's Office, which has brought to light an alleged illicit system in the management of building permits.
According to the reconstruction of the investigators, two entrepreneurs, through a technician in charge, paid 100 thousand euros to the mayor in exchange for the issuing of a building permit, without the necessary subdivision plan having been approved.
The investigations – based on wiretaps, searches and seizures, including over 160 thousand euros in cash – have highlighted a systematic modus operandi by the mayor, who would have interfered with the activity of the municipal offices to favor some entrepreneurs and technicians close to him.
The investigation, which has already led to seizures related to construction crimes in the past, sheds light on a management of the public administration bent to private interests and on an alleged illicit connection between politics, business and local professionals.

It is incredible how such serious corruption situations can occur in a municipality, but unfortunately it is not the first time we hear of these episodes. Trust in politicians is decreasing more and more.
