Caserta – An investigation to shed light on alleged irregularities in a university competition has shaken the University of Campania “Luigi Vanvitelli”.
The Military of the Economic and Financial Police Unit of the Guardia di Finanza of Caserta, on behalf of the Public Prosecutor's Office, are currently executing a search and seizure order against eight individuals seriously suspected of having altered the regularity of a tender.
The investigation concerns a competition reserved for non-medical graduates for admission to the school of specialization in pharmacology and clinical toxicology. The legal proceedings, still in an embryonic phase, aim to corroborate the circumstantial and evidentiary framework already acquired by investigators.
University Profiteers and “Favors” Between Public Administrations
At the centre of the investigations are three university professors from the aforementioned University who, in their role as President of the commission and members of the competitive procedure, together with an administrative manager, allegedly carried out acts aimed at altering the regular conduct of the tender.
These illicit actions would have been perpetrated in order to favor some candidates "reported" by a manager of the Local Health Authority Napoli 2 Nord of Frattamaggiore. In exchange for this illicit favor, the manager of the ASL would have unduly guaranteed the hiring of a close relative of the President of the commission at a public health facility in Campania.
Changes to papers to ensure inflated scores
During the investigations, evidence was acquired that suggests a material modification and alteration, by the subjects investigated, of the papers produced by the competitors. The objective was to guarantee specific candidates a better score than the one actually achieved in the exam, ensuring them a favorable position in the ranking.
In order to acquire further evidence, the searches were also extended to the competent offices of the University of Campania.Vanvitelli” and the Local Health Authority Napoli 2 Nord of Frattamaggiore.
The operation highlights the commitment of the Fiamme Gialle in combating corruption and irregularities in public tender procedures, in order to protect legality and meritocracy.
