The Diego Armando Stadium Expansion Project Maradona officially enters the programming of the Municipality of Naples. The announcement was made by the Councilor for Infrastructure, Mobility and Civil Protection, Edoardo Cosenza, speaking to the microphones of Stile TV, during the program "Salite sulla giostra" hosted by Raffaele Auriemma.
"The City Council approved an amendment presented by Councilor Simeone," Cosenza explained, "which provides for the design and restoration of the stadium's third tier. This is a significant project, already included in the city administration's planning."
A resolution will soon be issued to call for tenders for the design. We expect to have the executive project ready by the end of the year, so that work can begin in 2026."
The restoration of the third tier will increase the capacity of the Fuorigrotta stadium: "This means approximately 10 more seats," Cosenza continued, "with the goal of reaching 65 spectators available for the 2026-2027 season. This is a crucial first step for any future renovation of the stadium, even if no other projects are currently planned."
The councilor then clarified that the Municipality prefers, at least in this phase, to independently manage the financing of the works, while acknowledging the willingness shown by the president of Napoli, Aurelio De Laurentiis, to contribute financially.
Finally, Cosenza added: "If we were to proceed with a more extensive renovation, such as moving the fans closer to the pitch, it would be inevitable that the first tier would be temporarily unusable."

I am happy that the stadium is being expanded because it is a good thing for the city of Naples. But I hope that the works do not cause too much inconvenience to the fans and that the completion times are respected as announced.
