Illegal plantation discovered in Caiazzo with arrests
A well-hidden plantation, fenced with electric wire, equipped with an irrigation system, and defended by a semi-automatic pistol ready to fire: this is the scene encountered by the Carabinieri of the Operational and Radiomobile Unit of the Caserta Company during a raid in the rural area of Caiazzo, a small town on the outskirts of the city.
The operation, which began late yesterday morning, is the result of several days of stakeouts and surveillance, including with the aid of a Provincial Command drone. From above, the military spotted the suspicious plot, where the outlines of numerous marijuana plants clearly emerged from the vegetation. When law enforcement arrived, a father and son, aged 69 and 29, both originally from Caiazzo and already known to the authorities, were caught red-handed.
Inside the well-marked and equipped cultivation area, they counted 76 cannabis plants, approximately one and a half meters tall, ready for harvest. But the most disturbing surprise came during the search: hidden inside a plastic bin, the Carabinieri found a semi-automatic pistol with its serial number erased and a live round in the chamber, complete with a magazine containing 15 rounds.
All the material was seized, including the illegal weapon. The two men were placed under house arrest on charges of drug cultivation, illegal possession of a weapon and ammunition, and receiving stolen goods. This operation confirms the effectiveness of territorial control, also thanks to technology, and draws attention to how often, even in small rural towns, well-organized criminal activities lurk.
