Sand sculptures enchant the beach of Forio
The beach at Forio's port has been transformed into an ephemeral yet powerful museum, where the sun sculpts alongside man. It's here that Neapolitan artist Antonio Iannini has created an open-air art gallery, made entirely of sand, with works celebrating the island of Ischia's iconic landmarks as well as the architectural wonders of the world.
Standing amidst sweat and salt air, Iannini has already modeled the Church of Soccorso, the Aragonese Castle, the Torrione, the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio, and even an Egyptian sphinx, alongside Mayan pyramids. A visual atlas, but also a social commentary: one of his sculptures shows a couple in bed, stretched out but disconnected, he and she glued to their cell phone screens.
It's not just beauty, but reflection: Iannini's art raises a cry against excessive dependence on technology, inviting us to rediscover human connection and the wonder of the landscape, amidst seahorses, shells, and symbols of an environment worthy of protection. The work, begun in June, will be completed by the end of September, and in the meantime, thousands of tourists and residents stop by every day to admire it, filled with wonder and smiles.
“It's my first time on the island – says the artist – and I'm happy with the affection I'm receiving. These sculptures tell the story of my travels, but also of the respect I have for this extraordinary place."

The article discusses a very interesting and unique project. Transforming the beach into a museum is fascinating, but it also poses significant environmental risks. Art should be more sustainable and respectful of the local ecosystem.
