Daniela Di Maggio, the mother of Giovanbattista Cutolo—the young musician brutally murdered in downtown Naples—will run for the League party in the upcoming regional elections in Campania. She announced the news herself, emphasizing the profound meaning of her political choice: transforming grief into civic engagement, bringing beauty to places of degradation and legality where impunity currently reigns.
"Salvini He asked me how he could help me. I replied: let's change the law. That's how the Giogiò law was born.", says Di Maggio. A law that includes the crime of inciting minors to commit crimes or using mafia methods, including through music, and the blocking of social media profiles of those convicted of serious crimes. This commitment has found support in the work of Undersecretary Ostellari and has now become a political program.
My son wouldn't have died if his murderer, a repeat offender, hadn't been free. I want to fight against juvenile violence, corruption, and neglect of the suburbs. And I want to do so by bringing art and music to places where horror reigns: it's Giogiò's gentle revolution., explains Di Maggio, who intends to be the spokesperson for a different Campania, where legality and culture are the pillars of rebirth.
