RReggio Calabria – Giuseppe Borrelli, a 65-year-old magistrate from Naples, has been unanimously appointed Public Prosecutor of Reggio Calabria by the CSM Plenum, upon recommendation of the Fifth Commission.
Borrelli, currently at the helm of the Prosecutor's Office Salerno, succeeds Giovanni Bombardieri, who transferred in September 2024 as Turin prosecutor.
Born in Naples and a huge fan of the Neapolitan team, Borrelli is a regular at the Maradona Stadium for Napoli home games and isn't above following the team on away trips.
His career, which began in 1986, is described in the CSM resolution as "very long, vast, and unparalleled," marked by his commitment to difficult areas, characterized by the endemic presence of organized crime.
After starting out at the Aversa District Court and as a deputy prosecutor at the Naples District Court, Borrelli worked from 1995 to 2007 as a deputy prosecutor at the Naples District Anti-Mafia Office.
He subsequently served as an inspector at the Ministry of Justice until 2009, when he was appointed deputy prosecutor in Catanzaro. In 2014, he returned to Naples as deputy prosecutor, before taking over the Salerno Prosecutor's Office in 2020.
With this appointment, Borrelli prepares to lead one of Italy's most challenging prosecutor's offices, bringing with him over thirty years of experience fighting organized crime and a deep understanding of the dynamics of complex territories.

It's strange how someone with so much experience could be appointed to Reggio Calabria. I hope he can do well and bring about real change in the fight against crime, which is very prevalent in that area.
