Coast Guard intervention saves a man.
IIschia – Two divers were reported this afternoon for illegal fishing in the protected waters of the Ischia Bank. The operation, conducted by the Ischia Coast Guard in collaboration with the Naples Police Headquarters' Nautical Squad, resulted in the seizure of a veritable arsenal of fishing gear.
Following a report received from the operations room, a Coast Guard patrol boat headed to area “C”, close to area “A” of the Bank of Ischia, an area of high naturalistic value and subject to integral environmental protection.
Here, a dinghy carrying the two divers was intercepted, and they were caught with five spear guns, ten harpoon guns, and a gaff. The fishermen, identified on the spot, were fined, while their equipment was seized for subsequent confiscation.
Antonino Miccio, director of the Marine Protected Area, expressed satisfaction with the operation's outcome, publicly praising the swift and effective intervention of law enforcement. "This is a crucial action for the protection of our marine heritage," Miccio stated.
