NNaples – More pickpocketing is taking place in the area around Naples Central Station, where a gang of thieves – according to residents, the same one for years – is targeting tourists, the elderly, and families, especially on weekends.
The complaint was made by some citizens who, tired of the situation, sent the video surveillance images to Francesco Emilio Borrelli, a member of parliament for the Green-Side Alliance.
The latest incident occurred on Via Alessandro Poerio, where security cameras at a betting shop captured a robbery involving a Hungarian family. Witnesses who intervened to help the victims later filed a complaint with the Carabinieri.
“They've been operating undisturbed every weekend for four years. Always the same ones,” they say. “Not only that they pickpocket, but they also threaten us because we have intervened several times to help those who have been robbed. The situation has become unsustainable."
The Central Station area is one of the most difficult in Naples
The images and reports were forwarded to the MP, who raised the alarm: "The Central Station area is one of the most difficult in Naples. Between fights, drug dealing, homeless people, illegal markets, and degradation, residents pay the highest price. But how is it possible that the same gang has been operating undisturbed for years without being stopped?"
Borrelli called for targeted and long-lasting interventions: "We need permanent police presence in Piazza Garibaldi and surrounding areas, as well as tough measures against criminals. Safety and livability are not privileges: they must be guaranteed to everyone, citizens and visitors."
The complaint shines a spotlight on one of the city's main gateways, often a site of widespread crime and urban decay, with serious consequences for Naples' image and the right to safety.

It's a truly difficult situation we're living in. Pickpocketing occurs every weekend, and no one does anything to stop these gangs of thieves. It's incredible how they can act without fear of arrest. It's time the authorities took action.
