Fire at bar, fears of extortion threats
Sant'Antonio Abate – They haven't gone on vacation yet, so the "August protection rackets" are still active in the Castellammare area and surrounding areas.
And they did so last night with a clearly intimidating message directed at the owner of a bar in Sant'Antonio Abate. Last night, Carabinieri officers from the Sant'Antonio Abate station intervened on Via Buonconsiglio, near a bar.
It was a call to 112 that reported a fire which had damaged the room's awning, fortunately without causing any other damage.
There were no injuries. Investigations are ongoing to clarify the circumstances and motive. The Carabinieri interviewed the bar owner, who stated that he had never received threats or extortionate requests and that he could not explain the motives for the attack.
The Carabinieri naturally do not rule out the possibility of extortion as a factor in the act.

It seems to me that the situation in Sant'Antonio Abate is worsening with these acts of intimidation. It's important that the authorities take action. We hope that it will soon be clear what happened and who is responsible.
