A phenomenon that raises alarm, especially due to the early onset of cases and their geographical spread.
The first victim of 2025 was recorded in Piedmont, where a man died in March, well before the start of the usual "mosquito season", the main vectors of the disease.
In Lazio, the virus has caused two deaths. The first was an 82-year-old woman from Nerola (Rome), who was vacationing in the province of Latina and died on July 20 at the San Giovanni di Dio Hospital in Fondi. The second case in Lazio is a 77-year-old resident of Isola del Liri (Frosinone), who had recently stayed in Baia Domizia (Caserta). The man, a heart transplant recipient and suffering from chronic kidney failure, died at the Spallanzani Institute in Rome.
The last few hours have unfortunately updated the tragic toll with two new victims in Campania.
The first case involves an 80-year-old man from Maddaloni (Caserta), suffering from serious underlying conditions, who died at the Sant'Anna and San Sebastiano Hospital in Caserta. The man had been hospitalized in the Emergency Medicine department since last Friday following the infection.
The second death in Campania, reported by the newspaper 'Il Mattino', is that of a 74-year-old man hospitalised inSea hospital from Naples. Emergency transported on July 20th for a gastrointestinal hemorrhage, the patient subsequently developed symptoms of fever and confusion, aggravated by kidney failure. He died at 4:20 a.m. on Friday.
The escalation in cases and deaths requires heightened vigilance and the strengthening of prevention and surveillance measures in the area.
