UYet another episode of violence against the police occurred today in Acerra, where two police officers were attacked during a routine operation.
The incident occurred in the afternoon when officers were called to break up a fight sparked by a non-EU citizen who had harassed some passers-by.
According to the reconstruction, the man—clearly agitated—began throwing stones at the intervening police officers, causing several injuries. Despite the attack, the officers managed to subdue the non-EU citizen after a brief but intense physical confrontation.
Il prefect of Naples Michele Di Bari immediately expressed his sympathy to the police officers involved: "I want to thank all the law enforcement officers who professionally ensure the safety of our cities every day, 24/7." The government representative's words focused both on applauding the officers' performance and on expressing his hope for a speedy recovery.
"In addition to applauding the competent handling of a difficult situation," Di Bari continued, "I express our deepest gratitude on behalf of all law-abiding citizens." The prefect emphasized that incidents like this demonstrate the constant risks law enforcement officers face in carrying out their duties.
The non-EU citizen is currently being held at the police headquarters, where formalities are being completed for reporting the incident and possible expulsion from Italy. The two injured officers were treated at the Acerra hospital emergency room and are in good condition.
The incident reignites the debate over security and the growing number of attacks against law enforcement officers, which in the Naples area alone have seen a 15% increase in the last year, according to police data.

It's truly sad to see the ever-increasing violence against law enforcement. Police officers do a very difficult and risky job. We hope the situation improves and justice is served.
