In the heart of Caserta, behind the ordinary appearance of a construction site, a system of negligence and serious safety omissions was concealed. This is what emerged from a targeted inspection conducted by the Carabinieri of the Caserta station, in collaboration with the Labor Inspectorate and officials from the Territorial Inspectorate.
The inspection, conducted at a construction site for the completion of a building not far from the city center, resulted in four people being reported for violations of workplace safety regulations. The picture revealed is worrying: lack of adequate systems for working at height, lack of training on the use of PPE, failure to provide mandatory medical checkups, and inadequate documentation in the Safety Operational Plans.
The authorities' focus was on the sole director of the contractor and three representatives of other companies involved in the work, including one specializing in thermal insulation and two operating in electrical systems. Their responsibilities ranged from the failure to verify operating procedures (SOPs) to the presence of inadequately trained or protected workers on the construction site.
Sanctions were immediate: fines of €12.605 and administrative fines of another €2.854. Twelve workers were identified on site, all of whom were found to be legally employed, but this does not diminish the severity of the operating conditions found. At a time when workplace safety is at the center of national debate, the operation conducted in Caserta It's yet another sign that too often the lives and safety of workers are put on the back burner.

It's important that authorities conduct more frequent inspections on construction sites to ensure everything is up to standard. Worker safety must be a priority, and such serious omissions as those in Caserta cannot occur.
