CCasoria – A new case reignites the debate over the reckless entrustment of electric vehicles to minors. Last night, a thirteen-year-old was seriously injured in a collision with a scooter on Via dell'Indipendenza, in Casoria.
According to the Carabinieri's reconstruction, the boy, riding an electric bike, lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a man on a scooter.
The motorcyclist, a man already identified by law enforcement, was taken to Acerra Hospital with a fractured nasal septum. He was released with a 15-day prognosis.
The minor, however, was given a red code at Santobono: intubated, with a guarded prognosis.
Officers from the Casoria and Vomero companies are reconstructing the incident to determine any liability. However, the question remains: was it legal for a 13-year-old to ride an e-bike?
The alarm: too many kids on scooters and electric bikes
The episode reopens the question of road safety and control on electric vehicles, often entrusted to minors without adequate awareness.
Current legislationPedal-assisted bicycles (up to 25 km/h) do not require a license, but their use is prohibited for children under 14 years of age.
RealityIn many cases, parents underestimate the risks, allowing their children to ride without protection or on dangerous roads.
What does the law say?
Electric scooters: Prohibited for children under 14, helmets required for children under 18 and riding on sidewalks is prohibited.
Electric bikesIf they exceed 25 km/h, they are considered mopeds and require a license plate, insurance and a driving license (14 years).
The appeal of the authorities
"We need greater road safety education and stricter enforcement," experts warn. Meanwhile, the boy is fighting for his life, while another family faces the consequences of a potentially avoidable accident.
