BENEVENTO – The shipment was intercepted by the Finance Police of the Benevento Provincial Command of the Guardia di Finanza during a territorial patrol. Over 53.000 items, including rolling papers and tobacco filters, were seized by the Economic and Financial Police Unit from a van stopped in the province, driven by an Italian citizen.
The vehicle was transporting the entire load without any authorization, completely evading the statutory excise duty. The driver was fined for the unauthorized sale of monopolies, a violation falling under the anti-smuggling and anti-illegal trade laws.
The operation is part of a broader plan to crack down on illicit trafficking implemented by the Guardia di Finanza in the Sannio area, which continues to be monitored to stem a far from marginal phenomenon. The large-scale seizure not only represents a significant blow to the parallel market in smoking accessories, but also reaffirms the Guardia di Finanza's ongoing commitment to combating it.
