CCaserta – Eight new operating rooms, cutting-edge technology, and a robotic surgical suite: this is the heart of the new operating suite inaugurated this morning at the Sant'Anna e San Sebastiano Hospital in Caserta, in the presence of the President of the Campania Region, Vincenzo De Luca.
"We have inaugurated a high-quality project. This hospital has become a national center of excellence," the governor declared.
The new facility, constructed on a 2.400-square-meter site, occupies the first floor of a newly constructed building, integrated into the hospital's North wing, thanks to an investment funded by Article 20 of Law 67/88. The operating block includes pre-operative preparation areas, post-operative recovery areas, medical offices, technical rooms, and a multimedia room.
The flagship of the new facility is the robotic operating room, equipped with the Hugo RAS system, a modular platform with four arms, high-definition 3D vision, and precision instruments that will elevate the standard of laparoscopic surgery in areas such as urology, gynecology, and general surgery. The other flagship room is the "hybrid" room, equipped with modern intraoperative imaging equipment.
General Manager Gaetano Gubitosa, accompanied by medical and administrative directors Angela Annecchiarico and Amalia Carrara, and the heads of the operating units, illustrated the features of the new operating center. After the ribbon-cutting ceremony, a brief demonstration of the surgical robot's capabilities was also provided.
Hospital in transformation: €120 million investment underway
During the ceremony, held in the hospital's main hall, a review was made of the numerous infrastructure projects underway as part of the Caserta hospital's extensive redevelopment plan. Specifically:
A new three-story building, currently nearing completion, will house Radiotherapy (with bunker), Nuclear Medicine (PET-CT and Gamma Chambers), Spinal Unit (44 beds) and pools for functional rehabilitation;
Four new buildings for a total of 177 beds, thanks to PNRR funds (Mission M6.C2-1.2);
Renovation of building F3, financed with state and company funds;
New morgue with chapel of rest, in building M;
Strengthening departments and services and redeveloping outdoor areas, with the creation of a garden, new benches, and the symbolic installation of a "red bench" to support women victims of violence.
De Luca: "A model worth replicating"
The President De Luca He closed the event by praising the work done, joined by an emotional Gaetano Gubitosa who, in taking stock of his mandate, spoke of "an ambitious project carried forward with passion and rigor."
"We are revolutionizing the Hospital," Gubitosa stated, "by improving the quality, safety, and quantity of services offered. Thanks to the synergy between the Region, management, and staff, we have secured the largest funding in the hospital's recent history: approximately €120 million in national, European, and corporate funds."
A decisive change of pace for the province's main hospital, increasingly oriented towards becoming a point of reference not only regionally, but nationally.
