IA forest fire was put out in extremis yesterday in Campagnano, in the municipality of Ischia, thanks to the timely intervention of the Casamicciola Terme Forestry Carabinieri.
The alarm was raised by a thick column of smoke rising from the seaward slope, visible from a distance.
The soldiers, engaged in a prevention service against fire foresters, immediately went to the site, reaching the affected area after having traveled along a difficult path.
Near a house, they found a man busy putting out the flames that were rapidly spreading through reeds, brush, and Mediterranean scrub.
The joint intervention of the Carabinieri and the owner allowed the blaze to be contained before it could spread further. On-site investigations revealed that the fire had been accidentally started by the man himself, who had lit a fire to burn plant debris on his farmland, but had lost control of it.
This act violated the current ban: the Campania Region has declared the period of maximum danger for forest fires, making such activities strictly prohibited.
The man was reported to the judicial authorities for negligent forest fire.
The incident once again highlights the constant vigilance of the Naples Carabinieri Forestry Command in fighting fires, especially during the summer, when the risk is elevated due to high temperatures and drought.

The forest fire that was put out is unfortunate, but accidents do happen. I hope people learn from their experience and never repeat mistakes like these, which can cause serious damage.
