Ad Arzano, the 3rd edition of the Festa di Santa Giustina is in full swing. This is an extraordinary event for the people of Arzano, because it rediscovers one of their most beloved and oldest traditions of this city.
In fact, this feast began to be celebrated more than a century and a half ago, after, in 1858, thanks to the efforts of the Mission Fathers, the remains of St. Giustina, a Christian martyr who lived in the third century AD, were transferred to Arzano.
The cult of this Saint took root immediately, so much so that the people of Arzano not only elected her, like Saint Agrippino, as patron saint and protector of Arzano, but even named the once most important street in the town after her.
For her, more than for the other patron saint, they also organized a celebration every year.
In this regard, the one from 1958 remains memorable, created on the occasion of the centenary of the translation of the body of St. Giustina (see photo).
The Feast continued to be celebrated until the 20s, when it disappeared completely (in the last XNUMX years, in addition to the Solemn Mass and the procession, the Tragedy has been performed only a few times).
The “Pro-loco Arzanostra” Aps, in 2023, in order to discover and enhance the historical, civil, religious and cultural heritage of Arzano, as well as to nurture the sense of belonging of its citizens to their city, has worked – and is working – in every way, to bring the Feast of Santa Giustina back to its ancient splendor.
This year, after 3 events that have been very successful (Santa Giustina meets the schools; Photographic exhibition on Santa Giustina; Conference with presentation of the artists of the Tragedy), there will be others equally important and exciting: on July 8th there will be the Parade (the Saint will parade with the faithful through the streets of the city); on July 9th, there will be the representation, in the municipal villa, of the Tragedy of Santa Giustina; from July 10th to 12th, always in the municipal villa, the Concerts will be held; finally, on July 13th - the day of the anniversary of the solemnity of the Saint - in the church of S. Agrippino, there will be a Solemn Concelebration presided over by Monsignor Domenico Battaglia.
All these events, like the previous ones, will be filmed and broadcast live, not only by local newspapers, but also by a television channel.

The feast of Saint Justina seems to be an important event for the Arzano community. It's wonderful to see traditions maintained over time, even if there have been some hiatuses. I hope attendance is high.
