PAstorano – A violent fire broke out this afternoon inside an industrial warehouse in the Pastorano production area, in the Caserta province.
The flames, very high and visible even from a great distance, quickly engulfed the entire structure, belonging to a company operating in the waste disposal sector.
A thick black cloud rose into the sky, raising alarm in neighboring municipalities: smoke was seen tens of kilometers away. Numerous firefighting teams responded to the scene, working for hours on the complex extinguishing operations. Due to the size and intensity of the blaze, the initial stages of the intervention were hampered by the heat and the dangerous nature of the area, which was immediately cordoned off for safety reasons.
Investigations underway, environmental alarm
Carabinieri officers from the Capua branch were also present, cordoning off access to the area to allow rescuers to operate safely. The cause of the fire remains unclear and is being investigated by investigators.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported, but environmental concerns remain high: the plume of smoke from the fire has also alerted the Campania Regional Environmental Protection Agency (ARPA), which is already working to assess any potential polluting impacts on surrounding municipalities.
The mayor's appeal to the citizens
In a statement released this afternoon, Pastorano Mayor Antonio Scialdone urged residents to exercise extreme caution while awaiting further updates from health and environmental authorities.
"The competent authorities and relevant bodies have already been alerted and are monitoring the situation. As a precaution," the official communication from the Municipality states, "the public is urged to avoid prolonged outdoor exposure and to keep doors and windows closed. Updates will be promptly distributed through official channels."
Firefighting operations are still ongoing and are expected to continue until late this evening. Meanwhile, authorities are urging citizens to exercise caution and cooperate.
