NNaples – A 22-year-old Neapolitan man, already known to law enforcement, was arrested Thursday morning by State Police in the Ponticelli neighborhood of Naples during an operation aimed at combating illegal possession of weapons.
The young man was caught in possession of a semi-automatic pistol without a serial number, complete with three 6,35 caliber cartridges, and is the recipient of a prison order issued on July 11th.
The intervention, conducted by the Mobile Squad agents as part of the extraordinary services arranged by the Police Headquarters of Napoli, took place inside a house in the heart of the neighborhood.
During the check, the police found the illegal weapon and its ammunition, immediately arresting the young man for illegal possession of a weapon and receiving stolen goods.
Subsequent investigations revealed that the 22-year-old was already wanted: he had a pending arrest warrant issued by the Public Prosecutor's Office at the Court of Naples – Criminal Enforcement Office.
The order required the serving of a 3-year and 6-month prison sentence for crimes related to illegal possession of weapons. The arrest represents a further step forward in the fight against crime and the spread of illegal weapons in the Naples metropolitan area.
The young man was taken to prison, where he will serve his sentence, while investigations continue to clarify the origin of the weapon and ascertain any links to other illegal activities in the area.
The Naples Police Headquarters continues to intensify checks in the city's sensitive neighborhoods, aiming to combat illegal gun possession and ensure greater safety for residents. The Ponticelli operation is part of a broader plan of interventions aimed at curbing petty crime and illegal weapons trafficking.
